Lucie & Lalo’s Wedding

Augustus Hill Farm - Private Family Estate, Paris, Kentucky

An Editorial Equestrian Garden Wedding in Kentucky Horse Country There are certain weddings that feel entirely connected to the landscape around them — where the setting, the fashion, the architecture, and the atmosphere all speak the same language. Lucie and Lalo’s wedding at Augustus Hill Farm in Kentucky horse country was one of those celebrations.

Designed and produced by Makers House™, the wedding unfolded across the family’s private horse farm estate just outside of Lexington and Paris, Kentucky, blending refined equestrian tradition with a distinctly editorial point of view. The result was a wedding weekend that felt cinematic yet restrained — elegant without excess, deeply personal while operating at an extraordinary level of detail and production.

The ceremony took place on the lawn directly in front of the family’s historic estate, framed by towering white columns, sweeping views of the Bluegrass landscape, and floral installations designed to feel as though they had naturally grown into the architecture itself. Guests arrived to the sound of harpist Sally Skelton while dressed in vibrant garden-inspired formalwear that mirrored the atmosphere of the day — colorful, polished, and unmistakably Kentucky in the most elevated sense.

The weekend itself unfolded as a curated progression of experiences across Lexington and Paris, Kentucky. Guests gathered for a private rehearsal dinner at Apiary Fine Catering & Events before continuing the celebration with a full buyout brunch at Dudley's On Short ahead of an afternoon at Keeneland Race Course, including exclusive clubhouse access. Rather than functioning as separate events, each gathering was designed to feel connected — a seamless luxury wedding weekend rooted in Kentucky tradition, hospitality, and family.

At the heart of the wedding day itself stood what is believed to be the largest sailcloth tent wedding ever hosted in Kentucky. Positioned within the landscape of Buknore Farm, the expansive sailcloth structure rose above the fields almost like a permanent architectural installation, visible across the rolling countryside as guests arrived for the celebration. Inside, the tent balanced scale with softness — towering peaks, custom chandeliers, tailored paneling, layered florals, and garden-inspired tablescapes transformed the structure into an environment that felt elegant, airy, and unmistakably Southern.

The design palette drew inspiration directly from the estate itself. Powder blues, soft ivory, faded greens, delicate floral layering, and hand-painted details echoed the interiors of the historic home while reflecting the surrounding Kentucky landscape. Custom linens, scalloped menus, floral escort card installations, and layered table textures created a setting that felt collected over time rather than decorated for a single evening.

Throughout the celebration, family remained at the center of the experience. Children ran barefoot through the estate grounds, guests gathered for mint juleps beneath the autumn light, and emotional moments unfolded naturally across the property — from intimate bridal portraits inside the historic farmhouse to sunset ceremony views overlooking the rolling Bluegrass hills. The wedding carried a sense of warmth and permanence that is increasingly rare within modern luxury weddings: elevated yet welcoming, refined yet entirely authentic to the families and setting surrounding it.

Culinary direction throughout the weekend was led by Apiary Fine Catering & Events, whose hospitality-forward approach complemented the tone of the celebration beautifully. Dinner service beneath the sailcloth tent felt less like a formal reception and more like an elegant Southern dinner party on an extraordinary scale, with guests lingering late into the evening beneath candlelight, floral-covered band staging, and softly glowing chandeliers.

From the floral-covered ceremony lawn overlooking the manor house to the custom band stage wrapped in garden blooms, every portion of the wedding was designed to feel immersive and connected to the property itself. The result was a celebration that embodied the next generation of luxury Kentucky weddings — rooted in heritage, elevated through intentional design, and centered around meaningful guest experience above all else.
